HOLES in one are often like buses – there are none for ages then any number turn up at the same time.

That has certainly proved to be the case at Davenport Golf Club.

Three of their ladies have achieved one of the pinnacles of golfing success by recording a hole in one apiece in just a few days.

Chris Walker began the hat-trick of aces on the 126-yard 16th hole. Jan Lea was next up on the 182-yard third hole and Sylvia Lowther completed the terrific trio on the 152-yard 10th hole.

There was more cause for celebration at the 19th hole as Davenport’s men played a medal over 12 holes. Terry Bonfield had his first-ever ace at the age of 73 on the 163-yard 10th hole.

In the main competition Chris Pollard topped Division One with 44 from Trevor Lush (44.3).

Richard Jackson was the winner of Division Two with 42, just clear of the ever-unlucky Chris Souter (42.3) and in Division Three Tony Woodward had a best-of-the-day 41 to lead in from George Cann (42.6).

Shrigley Hall’s Thursday Stableford had Keith Ribbans on top with 37 points ahead of Peter Will (36) and Keith Meredith (34).

In the monthly medal at Shrigley John Stewart topped Division One on 71, one clear of John Phillips.

In Division Two Winston Dudley-Brown won a cpo on 74 from David Durling and Gordon Leach.

A Texas Scramble at Mottram Hall saw an eagle on the ninth hole kick the team of Ray O’Keefe, John Doyle, Malcolm Hurrell and Martin Humphries to a winning score of 59.1.

Next in on 64.7 were Nick Roberts, Chris Bagnall, Toby Powell and Mike O’Donnell.

In the Manchester Alliance BB Stableford at Withington Golf Club, the am-am section saw the old firm of Paul Donelan (Regent’s Park) and John Hynes (Haydock Park) leading in with 42 points, one clear of Alliance captain Brian Hopkins and his Shrigley Hall colleague Roy Hargreaves, who paid for many missed putts.
