Top local PGA professional John Watson is looking to better the £25,000 the Amy Watson-Wright Charity Golf Day raised at Styal last year.

John, who teaches for the EGU North Midlands region at Styal, is one of the highest qualified PGA coaches in the area and also spent several years at the Adlington Range before switching to Styal.

The charity day at Styal on June 16 is the third one he has undertaken to raise funds for Childflight and Way Ahead to recognise the work done by them for his nine-year-old daughter Amy, who is suffering from brain tumours.

John, a former PGA North Region captain, said: "Former United players Dwight Yorke and Andrew Cole are playing and I met Chris Evans at The Masters and, although he is unable to attend, he will be providing a terrific auction prize – sitting in on his breakfast show before playing a round at Wentworth with Chris and former Lancashire and Essex cricketer Ronnie Irani.

"Other items on offer are six pairs of airline tickets courtesy of Virgin Atlantic, equipment from Titleist and Footjoy and various free rounds of golf including some at Marriott Worsley Park.

"There will be a full complement of teams enjoying the day and if anyone wishes to donate or contribute prizes they can contact me at Styal Golf Club."
