THE Olympic judo stars of the future might well come from Wilmslow if a recent tournament held at the Leisure Centre is anything to go by.

Over 170 competitors from all over the country gathered last month to take part in a day of competition over a range of senior and junior age groups and weight categories.

Wilmslow Judo Club were well represented in the junior section and a number of club members fought well to gain four gold, one silver and six bronze medals.

Ryan Jones made short work of his opponents in the first under 48kg category and emerged with a gold medal having scored the maximum 10 point score (Ippon) in both his contests.

Calum Hubbard dominated the second under 48kg pool with a confident fighting style and used a strong reaping technique to good advantage.

Nicholas Czubin also took gold in the under 40kg section by out-pointing two of his opponents and overpowering a third in groundwork.

The club's fourth gold medal went to Patrick Langham whose usual businesslike performance proved too strong for his opponents.

Special mention should be made of Ella Langham who was the clubs only entry in the girls section and who fought very bravely in her first proper competition.

Jeremy Sumner also gave a confident performance in his first proper outing and drew admiring gasps from the crowd when he won one of his contests with a spectacular shoulder throw on his way to a bronze medal. The throw was later judged "Throw of the Tournament."
