Wilmslow Scorpions Swimming Club will soon be starring on the small screen after being presented with a share of £1,000 awarded in the Waitrose Community Matters scheme.

The club will put their share towards the purchase of underwater camera equipment to help improve style and techniques not visible from the poolside, such as tumble turns.

The use of the equipment will benefit children of all ages and abilities across the swimming club.

"We are delighted that shoppers at Waitrose in Wilmslow supported us in this way," said club chairman Tim Ramsay.

"We are very grateful to them, and to Waitrose, for providing these funds."

Scorpions is a friendly swimming club, with nearly 300 members drawn from children as young as five learning to swim to squad swimmers who race competitively for the club in an Inter-Town Friendly League.

Less experienced swimmers can also enter a ‘Tadpoles’ gala as their first taste of a competitive swim.

The club holds its own club galas twice a year for all the children, regardless of ability, to "have a go" and race among friends.

Regular training sessions are held at the Wilmslow Leisure centre on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays.

For more information, contact the membership secretary Justine Riches (01625 520344), visit the website www.wilmslowscorpions.co.uk, or see the notice board at Wilmslow Leisure Centre.

The Community Matters scheme is a popular way for local clubs and charities to raise extra funds for their chosen projects. Shoppers drop a green token in a collection box, ‘voting’ on which of three local groups they would most like to receive funding.
