A FULL field of local professionals and amateurs enjoyed the Manchester Alliance fixture at Wychwood Park.

Swinton Park professional David Smith had a great round in wet and windy conditions over the challenging Wychwood Park course.

He powered his way to a five-under par score and 41 points to lead in the race for the individual pro prize.

And he found an ideal partner in club colleague Peter O’Neill to make it a double with a superb 46 points to romp to victory in the pro-am section.

Next in were the Bury family duo of Ciaran and Sean Doherty with 42 points and Davenport’s Tony Stevens and Fraser McLachlan edged out Peter Barber (Didsbury) and his brother Steve (Castle Hawk) after a card play-off on 41 points.

Shrigley Hall’s ever-reliable pair of Alan Pengelly and Phil Smethurst topped the am-am section with 43 points from Fairfield’s Jim Cooper and Alex Dawber (42) and Blackley’s Alan Lane and Julian Robinson (40).

Tytherington ladies A team are the new Cheshire team champions.

Having won the East Cheshire ladies championship they took on West Cheshire champions Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

And led by top player Carole Ryder they showed their battling qualities to secure the county title with an exciting 4-3 win at the neutral venue of Portal.

It is the fourth time in recent years that Tytherington have won the county crown with the others being in 2003, 2004 and 2006.

Macclesfield’s men played in the Hovis competition and in Division One AP Walker cruised home with 65 from J Buckley and Philip Cockburn by two shots.

In Division Two P Sutcliffe was the main man with 65 from Darren Greenwood (66).

Davenport ladies played a singles Stableford and the divisional winners were Janet Lee (29), Lindsay Webb and Sue Wearden (36).

Davenport’s men played their summer medal finals with the divisional big guns being Jon Lloyd (65), Mike Upton (68) and Stefan Jakubowski (70).

In the subsidiary competition the divisional winners were Richard Downes (67), Nigel Cann (66) and Jim Bryning (67).

The results produced the year’s best average and it was taken by Jon Lloyd from Mike Tew.
