Liam Hanrahan has ended the year on a high, exacting revenge on a two-time ABA champion.

The Macclesfield Boys’ Boxing Club star took a fight against the Army’s James Allen at short notice, and returned home with a win via the judges’ decision.

Allen was due to fight Chris Blinkhorn at the event in Barrow-in-Furness but, after he dropped out late in the day, Hanrahan and club coach Gary White braved the hazardous conditions to make the meeting.

When the bell sounded for the three-round bout, the Macc lad

used his power and accuracy to pressure Allen throughout and was a clear winner with the judges, turning around a narrow defeat inflicted upon him by Allen last season.

Coach Jez Hough said: "It was a well deserved result for Liam, who always puts 110 per cent into his training sessions."
