A FULL field of players were delighted to be able to play in good golf conditions at Mottram Hall despite the recent horrendous rainfall that has closed many courses in the area.

The competition, a betterball Stableford, was sponsored by Andrew Murray who was assistant professional at Bramhall before a long and successful career on the European Tour and now on the European Seniors Tour.

Andrew is a life member of the Alliance and is also well known for his golf broadcasting on TV and radio.

The quality of the course on offer was reflected in some excellent scoring led by new Disley assistant Scott Jackson.

Scott, who has played on the Europro Tour, began his career as a junior at Cheadle and he partnered Cheadle stalwart Mick Holmes to a winning pro-am score of 42 points.

Scott contributed 41 points to also post the leading individual pro score.

They beat Bramhall’s family affair of assistant pro Craig Daggett and his dad Mike on a card play-off and in third place were Swinton Park’s duo of David Smith and Jimmy O’Reilly with 41 points.

It was also tight in the am-am section with a countback needed on 43 points to see the ever-reliable Blackley double act of Julien Robinson and Alan Lane home from John Hynes (Haydock Park) and John Brown of Regents Park.

Completing the prize list were Didsbury’s Paul Dalby, who is Andrew Murray’s European Tour caddy and former junior captain Simon Bowers with 41 points.

There was plenty of action at Styal with a Sunday Stableford taken by Mike Core with 38 points, two more than Steve James and Tim James.

A Saturday par competition had Jeffrey Chadwick top of division one on +2 from Rob Sanderson and Jonathan Dorsett, both +1.

Andrew Murray won a count-back in division two on +1 from Lester Farrelly and P Hambleton.

Styal seniors played a bogey competition and the main man was Len Rowland on +5 from David Marriott and Roger Rowland, both +4.

There was some good scoring in a ladies singles Stableford at Styal with Tammy Chan winning a cpo on 40 points from Helen Hawkins with Margaret Winterburn next in with 37.
