WILMSLOW ladies first team got back to winning ways on Saturday after a 2-1 win over local rivals Macclesfield in a feisty encounter at Tytherington.

With limited goal scoring chances for either side in the first half, it was Macclesfield who started stronger in the second half and their pressure led to a number of short corners, which were well defended by Charlie Platts and Sarah Dymond.

A converted short corner from Lily Harrison and a well-taken deflection by Steph Ormrod from a Fiona Ryan cross led to Wilmslow quickly taking a 2-0 lead.

Wilmslow missed from the penalty spot and were almost made to pay when Macclesfield got a goal back to make it 2-1 with 10 minutes to go. Excellent defending from Claire Rooney and Verity Lukes Mooney ensured Wilmslow took the three points and fifth place in Cheshire Division One.

The ladies seconds were defeated 3-0 by Sale at Oakwood Farm.

In a tough outing for Wilmslow, Noelle Hennesey put in a fine preformance to keep the scoreline down. Wilmslow showed glimpses of some fine hockey and will need to pick up a gear in the return fixture this weekend.

Meanwhile, the second team maintained their mid-table spot with a 5-2 win over Deeside Ramblers fourths.

Adam O’Neill put his side 2-0 up early on and Richard Sinclair put dominant Wilmslow 3-0 ahead just before half-time.

A sluggish start to the second-half saw Deeside pull a goal back almost straight from the push-back but Wilmslow reasserted themselves as O’Neill sealed his hat-trick and man-of-the-match Ben James scored a great solo effort with Deeside grabbing a consolation goal at the end.
