There were worthy celebrations at Prestbury where their Cheshire champion and Northern Order of Merit champion Mike Bedford was in blistering form in a 36-hole Scratch competition.

Mike had previously held the members’ record of 65, which was equalled a few weeks ago by top junior James Newton.

But Mike left that record – and the all-comers record of 63 held by Styal’s David Horsey – in tatters as he went round in 62 and followed this with a 67 in the second round for a magnificent winning total of 129.

The club gross championship at Styal saw James McCormick take the lead in round one with a fine 69 putting him clear of Alistair Waddell (70), Martyyn Walsh (71) and Harry Reid (76).

In the nett section Abeeb Kahn won a card play-off on 66 from Alistair Waddell with Andrew Murray a shot off the pace.

It needed a cpo on 40 points to see Mark Belshaw home in a Sunday stableford from Stewart Godfrey, with John Dawson in third spot with 39 points.

Martyn Walsh won a Wednesday stableford at Styal with 36 points from Pete Flanagan (35).

Elaine Burgess romped home in the latest round of the Styal ladies Summer Cup with her 25 points seeing her four clear of Rose McCormack.

Medal action for Styal ladies had Judy Humphries firmly in charge with 65, six shots clear of Hilary Boyce and Jenny Merren with Natalie Lowe having the best gross of 80.

Derick Ashton was the main man in a Thursday stableford at Shrigley Hall, posting 42 points to lead in from Keith Ribbans (40) and Don Farquharson (39).

In the Midsummer Cup at Shrigley Philip Thompson had a round to remember, carding 44 points to cruise home from Andrew Barstow (41) and Philip Gardener (39).

Macclesfield ladies had mixed results in their latest East Cheshire League matches with the B team beating Disley 5.5-1.5.

The winners for Macc were Sue Walton, Myra Clark, Nancy Barkworth, Marleen Connor and Brenda Smith with lady captain Judy Mutter halving her game.

In the local derby Plate match against Alderley Edge, Macc lost out 5-2 with their points coming from Kay Atkin and Mary Bacchus.

Macc’s men played for the Barnaby stableford and in Division One Bill Williams was first past the post with 39 points, one more than Paul Bowden, Matt Delargy, Russell Jackson and T Lancaster.

Division Two’s big gun was Andrew Cooper with 41 points, chased hard by 40-pointers from Pete Geoghegan and Dr H Davies.

Davenport ladies played for Mr Captain’s Prize in an EWGA medal with Muriel Quigley winning a cpo on 65 from Marie McDonagh with Jill Whittle and Margaret Brown two shots off the pace.

Alderley Edge ladies played on Lady Captain’s Day and in a singles stableford format Valerie Hornsby eased home with 38 points, one more than the chasing pack of Anne Greenhill, Margaret Sumner, Frances West and Sue Carless.

Edge’s men were in medal mode, playing in round two of the Hospital Trophy and P Ellis led in with 65 from P Broome (66), Luke Foden (67) and Harry Sexton and M Troup (both 69).

A Midweek medal at Mottram Hall was won by Karl Anderson with 69, a shot less than Andy Rogers.
