PAM Wiseley is looking forward to one of her busiest years in golf after taking up the reins as the President of the Manchester and District Ladies Golf Association.

The MDLGA is now well past its Centenary year and, with nearly 90 clubs involved in its activities, is probably the biggest of its kind for lady club golfers in the world.

Pam has been a staunch member of Houldsworth Golf Club for many years and they too are looking forward to another big year as they celebrate their Centenary in 2010.

Pam said: "I was extremely proud, honoured and surprised to be asked to be the next President of the MDLGA. It is a great organisation which helps to promote ladies golf in the Manchester area.

"It is also a supporter of junior golf in Cheshire, Lancashire and Derbyshire which are all worthy causes and I am looking forward to my role as president supporting all the competitions and hope to maintain the high standard demonstrated by previous presidents.  I started playing golf in 1990 when I joined Houldsworth. I have been a member there ever since – I wish I had started playing golf earlier in life as I really enjoy playing.  "I was Lady Captain in 1995 and have also been Lady Secretary and Handicap Secretary. I was the first lady at Houldsworth to be a lady full golf member and the first lady on the Board of Directors.  I joined the Board in April 2007 as the Club Honorary Treasurer and resigned in June this year.  In 2009 I was the Chairman of the East Cheshire Inter Club Shield Association.  I served on the committee of the MDLGA from 2003 to 2007 and since then I kept involved by doing their website."

Janet Collins of Rochdale Golf Club will again be the MDLGA secretary and again organising the superbly supported Bell Cup for the ladies club teams in the MDLGA will be Jackie Foy from Davyhulme Park.

Houldsworth will host the Bell Cup final on Thursday, September 2 and the competitive season kicks off with the Bunty Booth final at Whitefield when the 80-plus winners of their club qualifiers will compete for the competition instigated in the MDLGA Centenary year.

Other fixtures are the Challenge Cup and Lloyd Jones at Greenmount on July 9, the team event at Rochdale on August 9 and the Greensome Stableford at Disley on September 10.

Winter golf is now in full flow and will continue at all clubs until next March.
