SOCCER: Lee Glover explains how he came to pit his wits with Carol Vorderman, in his weekly Macclesfield Express column...

The defeat against Rochdale left the lads deflated.

We started the game brilliantly and needed to score early.

As the game went on, you felt that they might nick one on the break.

The manager has had a chat with us and we want to put it right. The next few weeks will be crucial.

On a lighter note, I recently represented Macc in 'Britain's Brainiest Footballer' TV show hosted by Carol Vorderman.

I took some ribbing from the lads about my involvement. But it was a great day out for myself and my family.

The other contestants were Malcolm 'Supermac' Macdonald, World Cup winner George Cohen, former Manchester United star Alan Brazil and other current players. It was nice to get away and be involved in the show.

Although I am not a nervous person, on this occasion I felt as if I was having kittens.

All the lads felt the same way, as they did not want to go out in the first round - because you know the lads at your club will slaughter you!

How did I do? You'll need to watch and see, as they say.

Next season I've earmarked Kevin Keen to participate as he loves quizzes and I think he would do well.

Anyway, the show must go on - the important show that is. We feel we can climb the league, but we need performances, not talk.

This is a very important period for the club. Your support is needed and appreciated.
