STYAL Golf Club's young star David Horsey has been selected to represent England in two international competitions, writes Geoff Garnett.

He will join 14 other top national amateurs in Belgium next week to take part in the European International Amateur Championship, which will be staged at the Rinkven Golf Club, near Antwerp.

The 20-year-old ace will then compete in the home internationals at Royal St George's in September.

Horsey finished as runner-up in the English Championships last year, and he has continued his good form in 2005 by winning the Cheshire Championship.

A member of the England A training squad, Horsey was part of the victorious England team in the Costa Ballena Quadrangular tournament in Spain, winning all of his matches.

Alex Elliott, meanwhile, led the way home in a ladies Stableford at Styal with a fine 44 points from Enid Laverty (43) and Jenny Merren (40). The juniors played a medal over their par-three course and Matthew Brady won a cpo on 22 from Karan Chopra and Charlotte Leatham.

Terry Copeland led in the way in a Stableford with 45 points from Ray Morris (43) and George Jones (41).

Wilmslow's B Thompson and N Kirkness took second place in a Cheshire meeting at Vale Royal Abbey.
