The number of adults in England who regularly play golf has risen significantly over the past two years according to new research.

The survey showed that 948,000 people over the age of 16 play golf at least once a week, an increase of 59,000 from two years ago.

It means that golf is one of the fastest-growing sports in England and one of 14 sports eligible for four-year funding from Sport England.

It is estimated that, for every member of a golf club, there are three others who play but are not yet club members.

This is good news for local clubs as they actively seek to recruit new members and visitors to play their courses with various innovative deals and schemes, particularly for younger players.

Winter golf is now in full flow and will continue at all clubs until next March.
