Junior golf is thriving at Alderley Edge Golf Club. They meet every Monday in the season for a golf competition and it is common to have in excess of 30 juniors playing in an age range from seven to 17.

The Stableford points scored each week count towards the coveted Junior Order of Merit.The 2010 winner was Logan Stanyer, who won by a single point from Tommy Troup, with Zak Penney in third place.

The section continues to produce some excellent players with Harry Sexton, now handicap one, winning the 2009 Cheshire Boys Championship and Tommy Lawton has reduced to a two handicap and has made his Cheshire debut this season.

Both players are great role models for the younger players in the section who are looking to exceed the success of Harry and Tommy in 2011.

Davenport’s men played a four-man team competition and winning with an excellent haul of 11 points were Phil Rakestraw, Max Lauder, David Williams and Ken Carr but pressing all the way with 110 points were Peter Gorman, Laurie Chick, Jim Bryning and David Griffiths.

Davenport have also completed their knock-out competitions and the singles was taken by Jim Thornhill.

Mark Richardson and Steve Rhodes won the men’s fourball and the mixed knock was taken by Mike Jones and Lynda Lomax from Simon Bedford and his daughter Cathy.

A five-club Stableford at Prestbury saw Ian Johnson show his range of skills with 40 points seeing him home.

Prestbury ladies played a par competition and topping the divisions were Mary Staton (+1), and Barbara Everatt (+3).

Shrigley Hall’s Thursday Stableford was won by Peter Will with 34 points.

Styal’s Sunday Stableford was won by junior David Core with 40 points, from Harry Slade (37) while Josh Hinds led in five players on 36 points.

Styal seniors were also in Stableford action with David Wrigley on top with 40 points from David Cocker (38), and Ged Harrison (33).

Stableford play for Styal’s ladies saw Glenis Madden winning with 35 points from Sue Grange (29).
