HOCKEY: Alderley Edge men’s first team continued their fine run of results in the North Premier League on Saturday, grinding out their second victory in a week against Hull, 2-1.

In a contrasting start to the previous Sunday’s game, Alderley flew out of the blocks and had Hull pinned in their own half.

The opener came when a neat passing move involving Graham, Terwin, Barnes and Gregory gave Miles McGoun an opportunity to finish.

McGoun doubled the lead with a straight-forward finish after hard work in and around the D. He pulled the defence out of position and opened up the clear-cut chance.

The second half was a different story, with Hull pressing high up the field.

Alderley’s rhythm was dirupted and they found themselves on the back foot.

Hull grabbed a goal back, meaning a slightly nervous final 10 minutes followed, but Alderley regained composure and were able to run the clock down to take a crucial three points.

Alderley Edge’s second team saw their promotion hopes from North West Two all but ended by local rivals Wilmslow’s first team, going down 2-0.

The thirds also lost by the same score at Crewe.
