Edge’s Captain’s Prize was played over 36 holes over two days with Captain Charlie Hill in charge of proceedings

The winner of his top prize was up and coming junior star Tommy Lawton with two gross 72s for nett 66s, totalling 132, a shot further ahead of Max Penney.

In round one, BI Lewis led with 63, three shots clear of Tommy Lawton with Hansel Allen (67) and Rick Ford (67) also in the frame.

In round two Max Penney topped the day with 64, two shots clear of A Campbell and overall winner Tommy Lawton.

But, in a remarkable weekend, three players all posted holes-in-one on the difficult par-three eighth hole.

Setting up major celebrations with the amber nectar were Glen Swindells, Don Crawshaw and Alex Campbell in a remarkable hat-trick of aces.

Edge’s ladies played for the Captain’s Prize and Beryl Booth won a card play-off on 69 from Anne Greenhill with Sue Kendrick and Kath Goodall hot on their heels with 70.

In the MENWN Trophy, the men’s singles and ladies pairs competitions have reached their second phase with all players looking to make the final at Marple in September with the aim of winning a golf break in South West Ireland with Fairway Holidays.

The men through include James Waite (Tytherington), David Murray (Styal) and David Greensmith (Tytherington).

In the ladies pairs, local hopes rest with Jayne Roberts and Sandra Turner (Davenport), Jane Davis and Lorraine Smith (Wilmslow), and Julia Dunne and Gill Usher (Macclesfield).

Styal seniors were in singles Stableford action and Terry Copeland was out on his own with 44 points from David Hollick (40) and Mike Hinde (39).

Styal’s young star Martyn Walsh showed his class in a medal with his 67 giving him a one-shot edge from Peter Edginton, Graham Tilbee and Steve James.

In a Sunday Stableford at Styal C Marmion was the main man with 39 points from Andrew Bennett (37) and Ian Froggatt (36).

Singles Stableford action for Styal ladies had Bryony Henderson take charge with 38 points, well clear of Ann Rochford (32) and Yee Lee (29).

Wilmslow’s men played for the Captain’s Prize and it was taken by Andy Hughes (66) from S Rogers (67), B Coutts (68) and J Smith (69).

Wilsmlow’s ladies were in medal mode and topping Division One was Maureen Thompson (72), three shots clear of Denise Goulden and Pauline Clegg.

In Division Two, Pam Higham was also out on her own with 71, three clear of Kay Lees and Ann Estridge.
