HOCKEY: On Sunday Alderley Edge Ladies had tremendous success in the England Hockey National Cup at both U-16 and U-18 level.
Both teams have reached the last 16 of the National cup and are the only Cheshire and North West teams left in both competitions.
The U-18s hosted a strong Lytham St Anne’s team, who last year reached the U-15 finals.
Alderley blew them away in the first 15 minutes with an amazing display, scoring three quick goals and led 5-0 at half-time. Althought the second half was goalless the match had been won in an impressive first period.
The U-16s were equally impressive in their match at Hull, also running out comfortable 5-0 winners.
The ladies’ first team hosted league leaders Wrexham on Saturday and had the greater possession and posed a threat going forward.
However, a failure to convert their chances, and a host of good saves by the Wrexham keeper meant that they had to settle for a 0-0 draw.
The second team made it a perfect 10 with a 6-0 win over Sale.
The 10th straight victory for Edge maintained their 100 per cent record, averaging four goals per game.
The thirds and fourths squared off aagainst each other and a win for the third team kept up their promotion challenge, despite their recent six-point deduction for an administrative error.
The fifth team lost their derby against Macclesfield seconds 2-1.
