CRICKET: Alderley Edge cricket club's teenage batsman Alan Day is hoping that his touring party has better luck than England's.

For the 17-year-old is captaining a Macclesfield school side on a tour of the Caribbean.

Day is leading the King's School cricket first team squad on a two week tour of Barbados, playing seven top schools as they prepare for next season. The young side can expect a tough test according to coach Steve Moores.

He said: "They can expect hard grounds, bumpy outfields and young fast bowlers raring to blast out the English."

But a test is exactly what Moores wants. He would hate it if the tour was too easy for his players.

Moores added: "It will be a disaster if we come back having won seven games by ten wickets or 100 runs and I don't expect that to happen.

"We want to test our young players against the cream of young Caribbean talent, and are expecting the challenge to be severe.

"Though we want to win every game we play, the primary objective is to develop players for the coming season."

The King's School would like to thank Royal Doulton for their sponsorship of the tour.
