MACCLESFIELD Town will not be enjoying a glamorous third-round tie in this year’s FA Cup, but manager Keith Alexander remained proud after their 1-0 exit at Milton Keynes.

The Silkmen were undone by Lewis Gobern’s first-half strike but the MK Dons, managed by former Moss Rose boss Paul Ince, were unable to seal the game and had to endure a nervy final 10 minutes to progress.

And the current Macc manager is predicting a bright future for his youthful and talented squad.

"We’ve still got a positive outlook on things," said Alexander. "We were unlucky with the draw but we acquitted ourselves very well. Paul was very complimentary, he said we were unlucky, and I agree.

"On another day Jose Veiga’s save would have gone well wide and they wouldn’t have scored, it was a great save so he was unlucky there."

With the cup dream over for this season, Alexander (pictured) is now looking ahead to their league game at Aldershot, who have a new manager in the shape of Kevin Dillon.

"Aldershot on Saturday is a much more important game," added Alexander.

"We all want a good run in the cup but we want to get up that league table. We’ve been playing very well without getting the wins we deserve."

Alexander is hopeful that defender Nat Brown and striker Ricky Sappleton will be fighting fit after their respective injuries.

The pair were to play roles in Wednesday night’s reserve team game against Shrewsbury.

"They need time on the pitch, just to get a bit of match fitness," said the manager. "There are one or two lads who are lacking in games and we may look at loaning some out over the next few weeks."
