THEY'RE clearing the trophy cabinet at Wilmslow rugby club after scooping a sack-load of honours.

The club's under-11s claimed a winning trophy at Wilmslow's mini rugby festival where over a thousand players in 81 teams from 14 clubs enjoyed a thrilling day that was marred by wind, rain and mud.

Then last weekend in the blazsunshine at Wirral, the Under 15s defeated Sandbach 12-10 in a nail-biting game to claim their trophy.

A spokesman for Wilmslow Rugby Club said: "The players, coaches and their supporters endured very difficult conditions but the rugby was excellent."

"We managed to get through all 270 matches after attracting teams from as far afield as Percy Park, Tyneside and Greystones, Dublin." Wilmslow's Under 15s started their cup final day last Sunday with a selection dilemma. Coach Mike Barltrop made the final decision and his selection did not let him down. Wolves dominated the first 25 minutes, rarely allowing Sandbach out of their half. Scrum half Robbie Cowan finally crossed for Wilmslow's first try, but Sandbach clawed back three points from a penalty on the stroke of half time.

Flanker Dan Partington led an outstanding defensive performance against a resurgent Sandbach in the second half. Centre Jack Pickering side-stepped his way to a scintillating try on 53 minutes, converted by Stephen Beard and a late try by Sandbach set up a nail-biting final few minutes.
