In the national junior ABAs Macclesfield’s Lucas Farghaly took on Danny Longworth from the prestigious Gloves ABC, Amir Khans amateur gym in Bolton.

Longworth has much more experience and was by far the favourite in this bout and the competition so the pressure was on Farghaly.

But the unfazed Macc fighter was confident in the first round as the two southpaws sized each other up.

Longworth was pushing forward while Farghaly stayed on the back foot, scoring the shots with some clear counters.?He continued that approach in round two,  moving well and using the ring to its full potential.

The third round saw Longworth giving his all, obviously having been told to go for a stoppage.

Despite his solid, heavy shots right up until the bell, the result was a well deserved win for Farghaly and a place in the regional finals.

Pool of Life ABC in Atherton recently played host as they took on Macclesfield in a series of bouts.

The first fight of the night saw 15-year-old Liam Hinkley take on host club fighter Raheem Rafa.

Hinkley appeared to land the cleaner shots throughout, repeatedly landing his jab on Rafa, who tried to combat this through a combination of speed and power, employing a faster work rate and going for hooks to the head and body, however Hinkley was able to block most of the shots.

The fight went the distance, and while the crowd seemed to believe that Hinkley had done enough to win, Rafa was controversially given a majority decision.

The next bout featuring a Macclesfield boxer saw Robert Hough up against Pool of Life ABC's Darryl Preston. Hough was returning  to the ring after a 10-year lay-off, and he started on the back foot  against the more aggressive Preston.

Despite his aggression, Preston was unable to cope with his opponent, and after being at the receiving end of an onslaught of punches from Hough, the referee stepped in and called an end to the contest in round two, handing Hough the victory.

The third bout involving a Macclesfield  boxer saw Gaz Chapman go up against Stockport Boxing Academy's Miley Crosby.

Chapman was making his amateur boxing debut and he found success in his right hook, landing the shot on numerous occasions.

Crosby constantly looked to land left and right shots throughout the fight but Chapman was equal to them, repeatedly blocking Crosby's shots.

Chapman continued to get the better of the action as the fight progressed, and after completing every round the judges gave the unanimous decision to the Macclesfield boxer.

Hanrahan will look to replicate his cousin’s success and pick up a victory when he takes on Reynaldo Cajina on June 1 at Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Manchester.
