EVEN the worst snowfalls in 18 years couldn’t deter hundreds of local boxing fans, who turned out in their droves for the Macclesfield Boys’ Boxing Club showcase.

MBBC’s evening of amateur boxing once again thrilled a full capacity crowd on Friday evening.

With some areas experiencing their worst snowfalls in 18 years, head coach Kevin Bradbury was dreading receiving phone calls from various clubs who couldn’t travel.

But that didn’t happen, as fighters from each of the visiting clubs from England and Wales fulfilled their matches.

Illness did prevent a small number of boxers from stepping into the ring, but a 15-bout card, with a dozen MBBC members involved, put on a great show for a 600-plus audience.

Kevin ( pictured sparring with son Sam ) said: "A big thank you goes to all of the visiting clubs, especially Capital ABC, who managed to make the journey from Warwickshire.

"Without them we wouldn’t have had a show.

"We would also like to thank all our sponsors, without whom such events would simply not happen, and thanks also to all the staff at the Wilmslow Leisure Centre and the hundreds of well behaved boxing fans."
