Charlotte Leathem is another outstanding product of the superb junior development programme at Styal Golf Club.

She is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Styal’s European Tour star David Horsey, who was also a graduate of the Styal junior section becoming the first Cheshire player to play in the Walker Cup.

He followed that by winning the European Challenge Tour and then enjoyed a great first season on the European Tour in 2009.

Fourteen-year-old Charlotte is a student at Wilmslow High School and has enjoyed her golf at Styal for the past five years, where her dad Andrew is a former club captain.

Her dedication and talent has seen her handicap drop to five and help her become a regular for Cheshire junior girls and also a member of the winning Cheshire team to win the Matthew Brown Cup in Minorca.

Charlotte is looking forward to being the first girl to be the junior captain at Styal in 2010 as she also looks to reduce her handicap substantially during the coming season.

Andrew Leathem said: "Styal’s director of golf Glynn Traynor is doing a fantastic job as her coach following in the footsteps of David Horsey who he trained previously.

"She has been selected for England junior training at Rudding Park and is also enjoying on-going training with the Cheshire A squad at the Adlington facility.

"Charlotte has been entered for the British and English U15 championships and she will be looking to enter as many top competitions as possible to help her reach her ambition of dropping her handicap to two during the year.

"She gets great support from the staff and members at Styal where she plays most of the competitions with frequent success."
