Styal Golf Club officials and members were delighted with the results of the fund-raising efforts of their captain Gaven Tilbee and lady captain Sue Grange during their year of office.

Between them they raised over £22,000 for their chosen charities of  East Cheshire Hospice and St Ann’s Hospice.

Earlier in the year Sue had presented a cheque for £13,400 to the East Cheshire Hospice and then prior to the club AGM Gaven was able to hand over a cheque for £8,920 to St Ann’s Hospice representative Louise Banks.

Gaven said: “In these times of austerity many charities are struggling to raise funds and for our members to raise such a tremendous amount over the past year is truly phenomenal.

“My chief fund-raising event was the Styal Classic closely followed by the Captain’s charity Fun Day.

“I also took part in a sponsored cycle ride and could hardly walk for two days afterwards.

“There plenty of other fun events and as well as the members I also owe a great deal to professionals Glynn Traynor and Simon Forrest and the catering and bar staff as well as all of the members and friends who contributed in so many ways.

“During my year as captain I have enjoyed the camaraderie, friendship and fun that we have during competitions, shot guns, socials and away days.”
