HOCKEY: Alderley Edge’s Men went to the top of Hockey League North Division One with a 4-2 victory over Newcastle Uni.
Alderley took a while to get into their stride but took the lead through Andy Williams and excellently lifted over the keeper.
Sam Gregory then added a second following a tidy passing move before James McPherson scored number three, rfiling in a loose ball that fell invitingly.
Newcastle Uni pulled one back before the break and the second half was a controlled affair with the students putting on more pressure but not being able to penetrate the Alderley back line.
With space opening at the back later on Alderley took advantage when a swift passing move set Gregory free. Once again he raced clear before going wide of the keeper and slotting home via a post.
After time Newcastle Uni grabbed an consolation but the win lifted Edge into first place in the league table.
