HOCKEY: Alderley Edge Men’s first team finished their North Division One campaign with a 4-2 victory away at Lytham.

The scoring was opened when a well worked break was finished at the back post as Sam Gregory slid in.

A second soon followed with a Ben Gregory this time the beneficiary from a Warburton cross.

Lytham fought hard to get back into the game but could not break the resolute Alderley defence.

In the second half Lytham upped the pressure, but Alderley extended their lead, Sam Gregory was put through one on one with the ‘keeper as he went round him he was felled and the ‘keeper was sent to the sinbin. James McPherson kept his cool to score from the penalty stroke.

Lytham got back into the game when a good cross into the D was deflected in by a diving forward. And Lytham looked like making a comeback when they deflected home a second.

Alderley nerves were eased when the ‘keeper gave away a second penalty stroke felling Wilding and McPherson again converted to make the score 4-2 and wrap up the points.

The seconds had two wins over the weekend, beating Neston 3-1 with goals from Chris Hardy and Alex Morgan (2) and then closed the gap on promotion rivals with a 13-2 win over Mossley Hill with Morgan grabbing four.
