Former Styal Golf Club teaching professional Ben Trappe has returned to his golfing roots in the Macclesfield area as he joins the team at Adlington Golf Centre’s GolfWorks.

Ben spent several years at Styal doing some great work with their junior golf academy before he went to Switzerland to become head coach at Golfpark Oberburg, the first Swiss Academy to be awarded AA class status.

On his return to the UK he worked at the PlayGolf Centre at Trafford Park and he was also appointed as one of the PGA coaches at the 2010 St Andrews Open Championship.

Now he will be bringing his experience to GolfWorks with many of the top players already using the centre, no doubt very keen to tap into his knowledge and experience.

Golfworks head professional Daniel Haughian said: "Ben will be an important part of our expansion plans as his quality of coaching and ability to meet the needs of golfers at all levels fits our way of working perfectly."

Ben added: "I’m delighted to be joining the team at GolfWorks where I will be looking to meeting new clients and also be able to introduce some of my own regulars to the centre."

Davenport’s men played a medley Stableford and winning with an excellent 61 points were the top trio of Chris Pollard, Trevor Glover and Dave Stock from Mike Trew, Richard Downes and Andrew Yarwood who were hot on their heels with 60.

Styal seniors played a Four Club competition and Eric Rigby showed his skills with 40 points seeing him one clear of Len Rowland with Jim Stokoe third on 36.

Styal ladies played a Winter League Stableford and Enid Laverty was top of the shop with 21 points, two more than Margaret Winterburn and Sue Forster.

The Thursday Stableford at Shrigley Hall produced a tight finish with Peter Will winning a cpo on 34 points from John Trinder with Al Lloyd and Peter Whitehurst a point off the pace.

The draws for the Manchester Alliance inter-club team knock-outs have now been completed.

The blue riband Dunham Forest Trophy competition (holders Leigh GC) features the club professional and the top six amateurs in singles match-play action aiming to reach finals day at Dunham Forest in September with nearly 100 clubs in action.

In the preliminary round are Styal, who host Blackley, and Davenport who visit Worsley. Alderley Edge are also on their travels, to North Manchester.

Shrigley Hall also have a home tie and take on Alsager.

Through to the last 64 with byes are Macclesfield and Tytherington.

Dukinfield Golf Club will host the City Glass Men’s Foursomes final and in the preliminary round the only teams in action are Tytherington, who are at home to Mellor and Townscliffe, while former winners Shrigley Hall are at home to Warrington. Receiving byes into round one are Styal, Alderley Edge and Davenport.
