MANCHESTER Alliance captain James Murphy enjoyed hosting the Greensome Stableford over his own Shrigley Hall course after he and his partner John Phillips posted the winning am-am score of 41 points.

It gave them a two-point margin of victory over Shrigley colleagues Darren Whittaker and Nigel White, who defeated Leigh's Peter Chesworth and David Rowland on a card play-off into third spot in the event sponsored by Mark Taylor's MBN Consumer Products.

Dukinfield professional David Green and his amateur partner Jim Cox, a three-handicapper from Denton, won the pro am section.

Club action at Shrigley saw their latest winter league fixture won by A Ellis and J Cassidy with 44 points from J and S Maw and S Matkin and Paul Will, both with 43.

Captain Keith Ribbans and D Durling top the league on 130 points from John Phillips and James Murphy (127) and A Ellis and J Cassidy (125).

Meanwhile, the 2006 GMWN Trophy will see a change for lady entrants in an exciting new format.

For the previous five years the competition has been a singles knock out for men and ladies in their own groups playing match play rounds to reach the final for the last 30 players and the opportunity to win some great prizes.

In 2006 the men's competition will remain as a singles competition, but the ladies will play in a pairs KO to reach the final day.

The main sponsor will once more be Peter Walsh of Fairway Holidays who will be giving a golfing break in south-west Ireland for two in both the men's and ladies sections -but there plenty of other great prizes on offer.

The venue for the final on Sunday, September 10 has yet to be confirmed.
