Preview: Macclesfield v Esher
Powergen National Trophy fifth round
Saturday, November 5 (3pm)

MACCLESFIELD take a break from league action with a seriously tough game against so far undefeated and top of Division Two side - Esher.

The visitors will be confident after a run of league victories, which have seen them defeat Harrogate, Redruth, Henley, Orrell, Halifax, Moseley and last Saturday Launceston down in Cornwall.

Travelling by train from Surrey on Saturday morning and returning straight after the game Esher will also want to make the most of the long trip.

But Macc's squad should be equally fired up, in the last round they defeated Darlington after a couple of bad results, and Saturday's game has a 'cup final' flavour for the Blues.

Esher beat North Walsham 40-11 to reach this stage and as a club they are relatively new, having been formed in 1923.

They presently enjoy a 27 acre site in Surrey with seven pitches and seven sides to go with them as well as a well organised Mini/Junior Section.

Director of rugby is Mike Schmid a former Canada International who was also Rotherham coach before moving South.

Macc will be hoping that their ever increasing injury list subsides in time for the fixture because there is a lot of pride to be played for come 3pm on Saturday.
