Steve King says it’s all coming together at the Moss Rose, but the Macc boss expects a hectic few weeks as he builds his squad.

King has been charged with the task of leading Macclesfield back to the Football League  with only a handful of players currently signed up.

Goalkeeper Lance Cronin has penned a 12-month deal to provide the stability at the back and, in Peter Winn, Jack Mackreth and Ryan Jackson, King has pace to burn in the wide areas.

With a striker shortly expected to join, King is happy with the progress he’s made – despite an exhausting commute.

“I’ve done something like 6,000 miles in the last few weeks,” he said. “I’ve been non-stop but I’ve enjoyed it and I’m pleased with how things are moving along. The three outfield players I’ve signed so far are super-quick, and that’s what I want out wide and up top.

“I’ve asked for the pitch to be widened, so that we can make full use of them. It’s at its absolute maximum now and if we can isolate our quick players and their defenders, then we’ll be doing okay.”

While he still has transfer targets in mind, King is also fending off interest from Blue Square Bet Premier rivals for his existing players, and added: “We’ve had a couple of offers from clubs in this division for Colin Daniel and Ross Draper.

“We’ve refused them though, I don’t want to lose any of our best players, certainly not to teams in our division.

“I am happy for players to try to better themselves, and should they have offers from clubs still in the Football League then we’ll listen to them, providing it’s also the right deal for Macclesfield.

“But we won’t let our players go when it’s not the best move for them or the club – I don’t think that sends out the right message of where we’re going.”

Macc’s new away strip is to be launched at a fashion show to be held in the Henshaws Suite next Wednesday.

The event will begin with a champagne reception at 7.30pm, after which the new range of training gear from kit suppliers Adidas will be on show.

With Marks and Spencer in on the act, a showcase of the latest fashions from the high street retailer precedes the main feature, the unveiling of the new second strip, modelled by some of the Silkmen’s first-team squad.

Tickets for the show are available from the club shop, or by email at shop@mtfc.co.uk
