The Northern Road Relays were held at Blackpool last weekend.

The senior ladies were led off by Pauline Atkinson who finished in 17th in 16mins, 23secs, she handed over to Alison Hartopp who lifted the team to 14th in 16:18.

Sally Ann Pattison ran the penultimate leg in 18:04 in 18th place and Rachel Pleeth anchored the team home in a very creditable 15th place with a time of 16:45.

In the opening round of the Indoor Sportshall League, Macc Hariers' under-13 boys continued where they left off last season with a fine set of results from James Carey, Alex Ranshaw, Stuart Price, Josh Edgar, Stephen Wearne and Joe Roddis, each of whom set personal bests on their way to a comfortable points win.

Two of last year's team, now moved up into under 15s, formed the backbone of the club's first serious foray in indoor sportshall for many years.

Both Mike Cuming and Mark Bellerby achieved personal bests, as did each of their team-mates, Declan Murray, Adam Edgar, Toby Jennings and, in his first event for Harriers, Sam Jennings. The team's third place finish was excellent.

Both teams have already shown they should be real contenders this season.

Rowena Evans, Stephanie Kleynhans and Lucy Pollard were the three under-15G representatives.

Rowena set four new PBs - in speedbounce, standing long jump, vertical jump and shot putt.

Lucy set two new PBs, in standing long jump and vertical jump. Steff set two new PBs, in standing long jump and shot putt.

The highlight was Rowena's 82 in the speedbounce, using a new technique that she'd picked up while representing Cheshire earlier this year.

After much discussion, Rowena's technique was deemed legal.

This smashed her previous PB of 75, which set the under-13G club record last winter.

  • THIS weekend sees the Macclesfield Half Marathon starting from the Leisure Centre track at 10am.

All the athletes would greatly appreciate support out on the course.
