KING'S Junior Division pupils were making waves in the Macclesfield Leisure Centre pool as they won the Macclesfield Primary Schools' Swimming Gala.

Facing tremendous competition from the town's elite young swimmers, only one King's swimmer, elegant back-stroker Ellen Barratt, won an individual event.

However, such was the strength in depth of the King's squad that they took the overall title, with Gawsworth Primary School finishing a creditable second.

Silver medal performances came from the girls' relay team of Alix Davies, Barratt, Justine Blake and Eve Thomas-Davies with individual silver medals in the breast-stroke for Justine Blake and Ciaran McLaughlin and Alix Davies in the freestyle events.

King's Junior Division Swimming Coach Debbie Baker said: "It was an exciting, closely fought gala that represented the best traditions of the sport. I am sure that all of us involved in local schools' sport would very much like to thank the Satellite's Swimming Club for their expertise in running such an efficient and enjoyable gala."
