Historic event was 'wonderful'

IN AN historic and ground-breaking move, Macclesfield Golf Club have a Lady President for this year.

Myra Clark was lady captain at the Hollins Road course in 2001.

In a first for the club, Myra took over the president’s role as the club captain of 2001, who tradition dictates would have been the president this year, now lives in Suffolk.

One of the last ‘majors’ of the season was held in Myra’s honour at the weekend, the President’s Day tournament, a strokeplay competition which was won by Nick Hadfield.

Hadfield won his first competition after a four-hole play-off with Steve Goodyear.

While competitions were also held for the junior and mature sections, the ladies’ competition was rained off and will be replayed in a fortnight.

"It was a wonderful day," the president said. "The weather mostly held up and Nick won with a best gross score of 71, which was excellent.

"I played 10 holes with my husband and two past captains, which was the first time ladies have played on this day.

"It was an excellent day."
