Great week for the local pros

TWO top local professionals were celebrating in France for very different reasons after achieving success in the Challenge Tour event at Cotes D’Armor, Bretagne.
Macclesfield’s Jamie Donaldson came third, despite dropping three stokes in the last five holes, but the high finish meant that he had secured his full European Tour Card for a return to the main circuit after a one-year absence.
The event was also the first full professional competition for Styal’s David Horsey.
Horsey, who has already qualified for the final European Tour School qualifiers.
David showed that he could compete at this level with a creditable 36th place after making the cut after two rounds.
Back at Macclesfield, Judy Mutter took the President’s Prize with a fine 69 and, at the presentation, the Lady Captain announced that the Lady Captain for 2009 will be Chris Gleaves.
Other winners at Macc were A Hamilton in a singles Stabelford with 41 points and, in the Life Members Prize, the divisional winners were Natalie Lowe (388) and J Dunne (38).
The summer medal finals took place at Davenport and the divisional winners were Jim Thornhill (72), Mark Bryning (66) and David Powell (68).
The subsidiary division winners for non-qualifiers were Stephen Johnson (66), Jim Dunn (63) and Bill Chambers (70).
Styal’s men played two Sunday Stablefords with Hugh Kirk winning the first with 41 points from J Connell (39).
Richard Aldred led in the second with 40 from Rob Sanderson (39) and J Connell (38).
Shrigley Hall President’s Day saw Alastair Strang as a clear winner, his fine 68 seeing him clear of a group of players on 70, led in by Howard Marshall.
The top gross score was shared by Alastair Strang, Simon Miehe and Brian Hopkins.
