OLD boys from two golden eras of cricket at the King's played a celebration match on the school's famous front field.

Unsurprisingly it was the younger generation from the late 1990s that beat the older generation from the early 1980s.

The oldies batted first with the bombastic Ged Duffy, later of Macclesfield and Langley, crashing a spirited 40.

The classy Neil Smedley then added 34 as they amassed 118 in the 25 overs.

But it was no contest as the youngsters raced to 118 without losing a wicket, each of Rick Emsley, Matthew Patterson and Chris Buckley retiring on 25 not out.

The current King's first XI won nine and lost seven this year, but looked to have great potential with 16-year-old Khalid Sawas making four centuries and Elliot Purdom winning the Player-of-the-Year award.

Coach Steve Moores, whose brother Peter is the new England Cricket Academy Director, said: "We were disappointed to lose that number of games, but the side has great potential and a lot of talent."
