Alliance Division 2
Styal 227-9
Langley 230-3
Langley won by seven wickets

GED Duffy hit a magnificent unbeaten 77 to steer Langley to a seven-wicket victory against neighbours Styal in the Cheshire Building Society Cricket Alliance division two.

Chasing 228 to win, Dave Gregory (47) and Rick Hollinshead (67) gave Langley the perfect start with a 97-run partnership at Cockhall Lane.

But when the pair fell in quick succession, leaving the home side wobbling on 124 for 3, Duffy - who smashed a brilliant 171 not out the week before - continued in his rich vein of form to see the hosts home with seven overs to spare.

Earlier, David Frame (4-52) was the pick of the Langley bowlers as Steve Shawcross (65), Bradley Sloan (55) and Adam Gough (39 not out) helped Styal set an imposing total. Hollinshead (2-39) and Matt Barber (2-45) also chipped in with wickets.

But Langley suffered League Cup disappointment the following day when they went down by nine wickets against last year's finalists Disley. Skipper Andy Mannion struck a classy 65 and, along with young Ed Johnson, put on 92 in just 14 overs before Disley pegged the home side back and dismissed them for 200.

That total was never going to be enough on an excellent batting strip against a strong Disley batting line-up.

Alex Berzins struck early to remove danger man Clarke, but Baker smashed an unbeaten 104 and, together with Brownsword (77 not out), steered Disley to a comfortable victory with nine wickets to spare.

In division three, a weakened Kerridge side slipped to a 80-run defeat against promotion-favourites Rylands.

The home side set Kerridge 244 for two - Nathan Taylor and Dom Leigh taking a wicket apiece - but they fell well short as they were dismissed for 164, despite the efforts of top-scorer Mark Huddart (57) and Rick Gleave (29).

Kerridge were all out again for 164 the following day as they were knocked out of the cup by Norbury.

Gareth Edwards (63) and Nathan Taylor (27) were the main contributors, but the 10 men could not contain the hosts as they reached 165 for 7.

Ryan Taylor (3-11) and Gareth Edwards (2-31) bowled well before Norbury secured the inevitable win.

Meanwhile, the seconds were skittled for just 50 as Heaton Mersey Village romped to a eight-wicket victory at Clarke Lane.
