Prestbury pressing Pack

Matt Eagles

WITH the majority of clubs involved in the Sunday Cup, Prestbury took advantage and moved up to second in the Macclesfield and District Sunday League, behind leaders Pack Horse, with a 4-0 victory over Macc Boys Seniors at Bonis Hall Lane.

The Seniors had much the better of the opening exchanges but Prestbury deserved their victory.

Chris Connors opened the scoring in the first half from a free-kick and Dave Ansall made it 2-0 early in the second half, before Connors wrapped up the game with two more, including one from the penalty spot which he slotted home to banish the demons of last week’s spot-kick miss.

In Division One, the future looks bleak for Chain and Gate, who collapsed to their fifth successive defeat, shipping seven goals to Hollins at Bollington Cross. Gaz Burns scored a hat-trick, John Duignan and Jamie Beech each hit two.

Macc Tigers are still seeking their first points after a heavy defeat at home to Sporting Kerridge.

The visitors started well, scoring twice in the first five minutes but the Tigers battled back to 3-2 before Kerridge secured the points with three more goals. The Tigers’ Nathan Corley scored twice and Dewi Chapel hit the third. For the visitors, Dave Findlow (3), Dave Bellerby (2) and Adrian Jackson were all on target.

Referee Mick Shaw made a welcome return to the game, running an exciting 3-3 draw between Tytherington Juniors and Macc Boys Juniors, a result which consolidates both teams’ mid-table positions.

With a makeshift back four, Tythy were happier with the point, despite being 3-1 up. Gary Taylor’s 30-yarder opened the scoring for the hosts and Mark Hughes headed home a second before Matt Stoten pulled a goal back. Ryan Walker made it 3-1 before two Callum Lofthouse strikes secured a point for the visitors.
