No joy for Silk Ladies

24/ 9/2008

MACC Town Silks went down in a 3-1 home defeat to Warrington.

The Silks started confidently but conceded a sloppy opening goal after 20 minutes. They levelled when an excellent through-ball from Laura Hoole found Michelle Gee, who unleashed a looping drive into the top of the net.

When Warrington did break through Macc’s defence, they found keeper Sarah Hall in fine form making some key saves, including a powerful drive which she pushed over the bar.

Shortly before half-time the visitors nudged ahead but Macc were still in the game and Emily Boon’s pace was a constant threat. Shortly after the restart, the killer goal came when a fierce long drive gave Hall no chance.

For the remainder of the game, the Silks were on the back foot and, although they created chances in the latter stages, no more goals were added.

Hoole and Abbie Jackson, who was forced off by injury, were the Silks’ star players.

Macc Town Ladies U-16s had a great result in their game against Crewe and Nantwich, with a thumping 12-1 win. Macc opened the scoring in the first minute and quickly went three up. Crewe kept battling but were kept out by Macc’s strong defence. Macclesfield continued to dominate the game and, by half-time had netted eight times without reply. With such a margin of comfort, several changes were made at the break, and goal number nine came shortly after the restart. To their credit the depleted Crewe side continued to pass the ball and scored a consolation goal but it was only a brief respite as Macc added three more before the end, in a tremendous victory.

The U-14 Silks also had a good day, beating Halton 9-1 in a friendly. The Macclesfield side’s strength in depth showed as they were solid in defence and controlled the midfield. The pacy forward play troubled the Halton defence throughout who found it difficult to cope with them. Elle Bracegirdle was Macc’s man-of-the-match.
