Young stars up for Umbro Cup

MACCLESFIELD and District FA Youth squad members are putting the final touches to their preparation for the challenge of facing some top international under-18 sides.

The cream of the borough’s young players will compete in the tournament, which is now in its 17th year.

More than 7,000 players from around the country and even further afield are expected to descend on Manchester for the competition at the end of the month.

The squad, all aged 16 and 17 and based at the Moss Rose and at Congleton Town, will face opposition up to three years older in their bid to bring home the trophy.

The squad is: Harry Shatwell, Tom Horsfield, Chris Fullalove, Chris Holland, Chris Patterson, Chris Wilson, Danny Hawkyard, Danny Quinn, Eddie Bailey, Gary Chapman, Jimmy Ladd, Josh Eason, Josh Sneddon, Loz Reynolds, Jack Pilley, Matt Nee, Max Williamson, Nathan Barber, Rubin Kennerley, Sam Johnson, Tom Dean, Domonic Hughs, Elliot Larson. The manager, Mike Cunningham, is assisted by Graham Astle, with the invaluable help of youth chairman Phil Edwards and FA members Allan Lunt and Danny Chadwick.

   Nice to see the sons of past players stepping up like Sneddon, Kennerley and Larson listen to what Messrs Edwards and Lunt have to say!!
