Pack Horse 2-0 AC Bollan

7/ 5/2008

A bumper crowd at the Moss Rose saw the Pack Horse retain the cup and keep themselves on course for a remarkable treble.

They set their stall out from the first whistle, giving AC little chance to settle and they thought they’d taken a third-minute lead through Lee Malkin, only to have their celebrations cut short by linesman Pete Gregory’s flag for offside.

The Pack continued to create plenty of chances with Lee McIntyre, Simon Band and Andy Atkinson all going close and Andy Quigley forcing a smart save from Bollan keeper Tom Edbrooke.

With Martin Quigley continually breaking up play in midfield, chances were rare for Bollan and it was 25 minutes before they had their first opportunity, Fran Oliver’s effort being smothered by Matt Towns.

Despite further chances for McIntyre and Malkin, it was Bollan who had a golden opportunity to take the lead when Oliver was tripped by Grant Beckwith and referee Colin Leese pointed to the spot. Oliver got up to take the penalty but his shot was well saved by Matt Towns’ excellent save to his left-hand side.

With Jordan Dyson having replaced Martin Quigley shortly before half-time, the Pack Horse continued to dominate in the second half.

Bollan keeper Tom Edbrooke was in fine form, twice denying McIntyre, blocking Band’s shot with his feet and pulling off a fantastic double save from Malkin.

The deadlock was finally broken with 11 minutes remaining, Malkin latching onto a header from Terry Costello to lash the ball home. It seemed to finally break AC Bollan’s spirit and, despite the efforts of Steve Orme and Andy Davies, they never got back in the game.

Deep into stoppage time McIntyre grabbed a deserved second for the Pack Horse to ensure the cup returned to the Broken Cross club.
