Macc girls win thrilling final

30/ 4/2008

AN AMAZING team effort from Macclesfield Town Ladies Under 10s saw them win the Cheshire Girls’ Champions League cup in a thrilling final.

After beating Great Sutton 5-0 in the semi-final, the girls faced a much tougher challenge in the final, playing a strong Frodsham team they had struggled against in the league.

Late in the first half Macclesfield conceded to a well struck shot, fired past in-form keeper Victoria Snow.

The Macc girls refused to roll over but a strong Frodsham defence and keeper stopped most of their efforts.

Still Macclesfield pushed throughout the second half, and equalised through Jess Clitheroe.

In the dying minutes of the game, Frodsham were awarded a penalty, which was excellently saved by Macc’s player-of-the-match Snow, who shortly afterwards made another superb save to keep her team in the game.

With the score locked at 1-1 after extra time, the game went to penalties, where Snow was again heroic, saving two of the penalties, to give the Macclesfield girls a well deserved victory.
