Pack prove superiority in semi

MACCLESFIELD Sunday League’s two most successful teams were paired against each other in the League Cup semi-final at Bollington Rec.
In a game that contained controversial penalty awards for each team, Pack Horse ran out 4-2 winners to earn themselves a final date with AC Bollan at the Moss Rose in early May.
Lamb took the lead with their first attack of the game when a cross from Lee Anderson evaded Pack ‘keeper Andy Atkinson. Tim Hammond followed up but the ball had already crossed the line.
Pack equalised after 15 minutes through Jordan Dyson.
Lee McIntyre put Pack 2-1 up on the half hour with a neatly-taken goal, only for Lamb to equalise from the first disputed spot-kick, taken by Jonathan Mercer five minutes before half-time.
The second half saw Pack confirm their superiority with further goals from Jono Campbell, a disputed penalty that was nearly saved by Lamb ‘keeper Ashley Newsome, and McIntyre’s second.
It was a good performance by both teams, but Lamb lacked the necessary cutting edge to convert their excellent build-up play into goals and Pack won the game 4-2.
The only downside for Pack was a nasty looking head inury to full-back Leo Neal who had to retire early.
