AFTER the heroics of their last match against the league leaders, the Silkgirls found it difficult to break down a side at the foot of the table.

The first half was fairly scrappy but Macclesfield had the better of the chances on goal but couldn’t find the final finish.

To their credit Bolton worked hard and frustrated the home side in a scoreless first half.

Macc upped their game after the break but the flowing football came in patches.

Further chances were wasted before the breakthrough came 20 minutes in, Janet Bebbington putting a super looping drive into the top of the net.

For the next few minutes the Silkgirls pressed hard but Bolton never gave in and it took some last ditch tackles and good saves to prevent an equaliser.

Macc needed the comfort of a further goal but it didn’t come until later in the game.

Some excellent work on the edge of the area led to a cross that found Hannah Roberts, who made no mistake from close range.

Although this was not one of the Silkgirls’ better team efforts there were a number of individually good performances, including debutant Emma Venables who was a firm presence in the back four.
