Macclesfield Town Silks 0 Stockport County HNR 4

21/11/2007

MACCLESFIELD effectively lost this cup tie in the first 15 minutes when they conceded three goals.

The first and third goals came from good drives, the second a looping shot over stand-in keeper Sarah Hall. There was little that the Silks’ star player on the day could do about the goals and she did pull off two brave saves to avoid further damage.

After their disastrous start the Silks pulled themselves round and gave as good as they got for the reminder of the half.

Good chances were created, Maddy Davidson having the best effort which brought a good save from the keeper. At half-time the score was 3-0 and the Silks still had a slim chance of retrieving the game.

However, almost straight from the restart their hopes were dashed again as a lapse in defence allowed the visitors to net a fourth. As in the first half, Macc continued to press hard but a strong Stockport defence always coped and there were few clear chances on goal.

As the time passed the outcome of the game became beyond doubt, and although both sides worked hard the match inevitably petered out towards the end.

Macc have the opportunity to avenge the defeat when they face Stockport again in next week’s league fixture.

n Macc Town Ladies Under-14s beat Great Sutton 3-0 to maintain their second place in the table, while the Under-14 Silks lost 5-4 to in a top-of-the-table clash against Warrington.

The Under-16s went down 5-3 to second placed Ellesmere Port.

The outstanding result of the weekend was the Under-12 Ladies 6-0 win over Crossfield. Four goals were netted by Jess Shepherd, and Tia Barber and Lauren Bayley added the others.

The result ensured the girls finished runners up in the league, unbeaten and just one point behind champions Bradwell.
