Ladies launch fight back

MACCLESFIELD ensured they did not have to pay the penalty for a controversial set-back by dominating the match against Manchester Stingers.

On Stingers’ first attack the referee decided a tackle in the area was unfair and awarded a penalty even though the defender got the ball putting Macc 1-0 behind.

The Silkgirls went straight on the attack.

Beth Clark and Jade Treanor went close, before Kim Janes received a pass, from Lucy Lutton, and turned her marker to fire home for her first goal on her return to Macc colours.

Sophie Massey and Vicky Jepson created other chances, which went wide.

In the second half Macc continued to dominate and Massey cut across the box and shot left-footed to put Town ahead.

With 20 minutes to go player-of-the-match Treanor pounced on a ball put through by Krista Oakes and, under pressure, slotted home.

Macclesfield started to play good passing football but on a rare attack Stingers capitalised on a defensive mistake to score.

But it was too late and the Silkgirls took all three points.

MACC Town Silks lost 6-2 against the league’s top club Winsford. Becky Hinde and Tanya Foster were the scorers, while Hannah Crookes had a brilliant game in a new midfield role and Sarah Hall was good in defence.
