Will Perry’s extra-time goal sent Macc Boys Juniors through to the Macclesfield and District Sunday League Cup quarter-finals at the hands of Premier Division Vale.

In an even tie the sides couldn’t be separated over 90 minutes, with Matt Ainsworth scoring for Vale and Elliot Bruce on target for the visitors from the First Division.

While Rochdale extended their advantage at the top, the unfortunate Nat Brown’s own goal saw Macc slip to 21st place.

Macc midfielder Richard Butcher snuffed out Grimsby’s hopes of ending a 23-game winless streak with a stunning free-kick.

On-loan Butcher scored his second for the Silkmen in the 57th minute with a curler that dipped into the top corner.
