Macclesfield's unbeaten home record remains intact but the point gained could – and perhaps should – have been three.

John Askey's men had fallen behind to visitors Forest Green but through Paul Lewis and Waide Fairhurst, were on course for victory until Lee Hughes rescued a point for Rovers.

Scott Barrow had Macc's first shot on goal but though he dragged it well wide, it almost became a fine through ball for Fairhurst.

Forest Green opened the scoring 11 minutes in, with a goal seemingly out of nowhere. Former Silkman Jon Parkin knocked the ball down for Elliott Frear and he drilled it from distance into the bottom corner, just beyond Rhys Taylor's full-length dive.

Macc did have chances to get back on terms, but Lewis turned over Arthur Gnahoua's wayward shot and glanced a header narrowly wide from Andy Halls' cross.

Taylor had to be alert to stop James Norwood firing in a second after Barrow misjudged a hopeful long ball. His keeper pulled out a smart diving catch at the near post, to keep Macc just a goal behind at the break.

Waide Fairhurst thumped in Macc's second goal

But Lewis headed his side level seven minutes after the restart. From wide on the left Fairhurst put in the kind of cross that he'd relish being on the end of and the strength and determination of the young midfielder told as he got Macc back on terms.

And 20 minutes later Fairhurst chose to go it alone – and did so in style, crashing a shot from the edge of the D right into the top corner to make it 2-1.

Macc's lead lasted just six minutes however. Lee Hughes, on as a sub for eight minutes, scuffed his shot but it somehow evaded Taylor and crept inside the post.

Taylor redeemed himself in injury time, denying Parking at point-blank range to ensure it ended honours even.
