Macclesfield were denied a victory by a 90th-minute penalty in front of the TV?cameras last night.

The Silkmen were looking for their third win in nine days after beating

Hereford and Tamworth to move out of the relegation zone.

And they looked on course to achieve it when Connor Jennings converted  Danny Whitaker’s cross for his seventh goal in as many matches to give Macc a 10th minute lead.

But Southport, who had former Wigan striker Nathan Ellington making his debut, were level just after the hour when substitute Danny Hattersley fired in from 20 yards, two minutes after coming on.

Jennings fired in from a tight angle to restore Macc’s advantage in the 77th minute.

But the visitors were thrown a lifeline in the dying minutes when Jamie Milligan was fouled by Joe Connor.

And Milligan stepped up to shoot past Rhys Taylor to scramble a point for Southport.
