A famous day at the Moss Rose saw Macclesfield battle to a draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

The Silkmen had trailed at the break but although they'd dominated the second half it took a calm finish from defender Steve Williams to net a valuable equaliser with time running out

Macc had been denied by a goalline clearance by Liam Palmer when Joe Connor's towering header looked like it was to give them a lead and Chris Holroyd watched his shot deflected narrowly wide of the near post.

But it was Wednesday that took the lead on 25 minutes, against the run of play. After winning a corner on a breakaway it was left-back Reda Johnson who got free and powered a header past the helpless Rhys Taylor.

That goal prompted a period of pressure from the Owls and Taylor pulled off a brilliant last-ditch block when Jose Semedo had the goal at his mercy.

But with little more than 15 minutes on the clock centre-back Steve Williams got on the end of a ball into the box from captain Paul Turnbull and steered it expertly inside the post.

The hosts' skipper had seen his own goalbound header hacked away earlier in the half and Williams' leveller earned the Silkmen a replay at Hillsborough that no one could deny they richly deserved.
