Had Macclesfield's game against Aldershot not been free to get in most of those who turned out would probably have been asking for a refund.

The Silkmen's scheme to throw the Moss Rose doors open to allcomers didn't see the supporters treated to a classic, although Aldershot did snatch a point at the death.

The first half never really kicked into a high gear, with Macc goalkeeper Rhys Taylor hardly called upon at all.

At the other end his counterpart Glenn Morris had to react sharply to tip a first-time volley from Scott Boden over the bar, as well as make more comfortable saves when Danny Whitaker, Jack Mackreth and Peter Winn had openings.

But Winn wasted the best chance of the half, lashing over with his unfavoured right foot after Boden's persistence allowed him to pick him out in the box.

And 13 minutes from the end of a stagnant second half substitute Danny Rowe charged down the left wing and picked out Boden, who steered his finish inside the post.

But with the last kick of the game the relegation-threatened Shots snatched a draw. Brett Williams won a controversial penalty against Paul Lewis and stroked home the spot-kick.
